Hi, this is Aubrey with About.com, and today I am going to teach you how to lighten body hair.

Tips for Before You Lighten Body Hair

There are many ways you can lighten dark body hair. Today we are going to be talking about bleaching/dying kits that you can purchase at your nearest drug store. Here are a few things to know before you lighten your hair.

If you have darker skin, the bleach/dye can turn your skin to a brassy or orange color. So, make sure you try to keep as much off of your skin as possible. Also, if your hair is thicker it will take longer to achieve the lighter color.

Tips for Buying a Kit for Lightening Body Hair

When purchasing a lightening kit, make sure you purchase one that is right for you. Some kits are stronger than others, and may be too harsh for sensitive skin. Some can irritate and cause redness. After purchasing your kit, follow the instructions on how to mix it.

Do a small spot test in an unnoticeable spot to make sure you are ok with the results. If you are happy with the spot test, you can start the treatment.

Apply the Product on Hair to Lighten Body Hair

Use a small utensil to apply the product on the hair. Lightly smooth it on the hair. Do not rub it in. This can cause irritation, skin discoloration, and redness. Once you are finished let it sit. Read the instructions of the product to know how long to keep on.

The process of lightening dark hair usually takes less than 30 minutes depending on how dark and thick your hair is. If your hair is thin and light, then it will take a shorter amount of time. If your hair is thick and/or coarse, it will take a longer time to lighten.

Rinse Off the Product to Lighten Body Hair

After letting the product sit, you need to rinse it off. You can use your hands or a wet wash cloth to gently wipe it off. It is important to moisturize your skin after the treatment because it can cause your skin to dry out. If any irritation occurs, stop using the product.

Do the same process when bleaching facial hair, but make sure not to get any in your eyes. This lighting technique works well on arm, back, facial, and leg hair. And, it is a good alternative to plucking, waxing, and threading.
