Transcript:Hair Removal: See the Waxing Technique
Hello, I'm Janay Lima, from Jaira's Waxing Salon in New Jersey. I'm here for About.com to explain the waxing hair removal technique.
Waxing is a very popular hair removal method. The wax itself is commonly made from resins. It is used to remove the hair follicle directly from the root so the results can last between 2 - 6 weeks.
There are several different waxing methods, soft wax is commonly used with cotton or paper strips. The wax is warmed, so it becomes soft and easy to spread. It is often applied using a stick.
The wax is spread in the direction the hair is growing. A thick strip of paper or cloth will be placed on top of the wax, it will be smoothed down, then pulled off in the opposite direction of the hair growth. When done correctly, this will remove the hair follicles from the roots. This is repeated until all of the unwanted hair is removed.
Leave it to the Professionals
It is important to go to a professional or to follow directions carefully if you are waxing yourself at home. If you do not remove all the hair with your first attempt, you should not go back over that same area again with wax, because it can be too hard on the skin. You can use a little bit of oil to remove any wax left over.
