Hi, my name is Leon Williams Jr. and we're here at 5 Star Artistic Sports and Entertainment Academy located in East Rockaway, N.Y. for About.com, and what the beautiful Megan and I are going to demonstrate are tips on how to do a perfect balance beam routine.

Always Use Good Execution on Balance Beam

The first tip for performing a perfect balance beam routine is, while doing the mount, you want to make sure that you impress the judge with good execution. Performing on the balance beam is very much like performing on the stage. You are high up, so the judges are looking up at you, so you want to be sure that you minimize all wobbles and balances. As you are doing the routine, the elegance of your hands and your feet are extremely important. The whole goal in an extremely good balance beam routine is to impress the judge.

Good Amplitude Impresses Gymnastics Judges

Another tip to keep in mind is to perform with good amplitude: what that means, basically, is the judges want to see good height on all of your jumps and leaps. Another good tip for a good balance beam routine is to perform with elegance and great presentation. Elegance and presentation are the key to a good score in balance beam. Extension on your splits, minimized wobbles and assurance and confidence and keeping your chin up.

Stick the Dismount From Balance Beam

Very important that your confidence is shown throughout the routine to everyone around you. Again, you are performing for the judge as well as performing for the audience. The more you impress the judge with your elegance, your amplitude and your jumps, your pointed toes and the elegance on your finger positions and your hands are extremely key. And finally, it's very important for you to stick your dismount. Because that is the last thing the judge will see and the first thing she will remember.

And those are a few tips on how to perform a perfect balance beam routine. For more information, please visit About.com.
