Hi, my name is Dani Zissis for About.com and I'm here with a quick tip on how to do a back walkover with a barrel mat.
Barrel Mats Help Build Confidence for Walkovers
You can use a barrel mat to practice or train to do back walkovers so you can work on your form as you build strength and confidence. If you are too tall for the barrel mat, you can prop it up with another thick mat to make up the difference.
Maintain Proper Walkover Form
When doing a back walkover on a barrel, you're going to start by putting the middle of your back on the barrel, tucking your leg under, and putting your dominant leg out straight and pointed. Then you're going to roll the barrel back pushing through the leg, kicking the leg over the top and doing the back walkover.
Just as when doing the back walkover without the barrel mat, you want to make sure that your hands are planted, your head is neutral, and your ab muscles are contracted as you bend back and pull yourself over, so as not to injure your back.
