Today we'll be learning about japanese gymnast Kohei Uchimura.
Facts About Kohei Uchimura
Kohei Uchimura was born on January 3rd, 1989 in Nagasaki, Japan and began practicing gymnastics at his father's gym at the age of 3. By 18, Uchimura joined the Japanese National Team and competed in the 2007 Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Paris where he won a bronze on vault and placed ninth on the floor.
In 2008, Uchimura won his first gold medal at the World Cup in China for his performance in the floor exercise and later went on to the Summer Olympic Games in Beijing where he contributed to the team silver and an individual silver in the All-Around. Later, at the Japanese National Championships, Uchimura won his first national All-Around title, becoming the first teenager to do so in 12 years.

Uchimura competed in the 2009 World Championships where he won the All-Around title and placed fourth on the floor and sixth on the high bar. In 2010 at the World Championships, Uchimura took home a gold for his performance in the All-Around, silvers for the team and the floor and a bronze for the parallel bars. At the World Cup that same year he took home a gold for the High bar and a silver for the rings. 2011 saw Uchimura win the All-Around for the 3rd time at the World Championships as well as a gold on the floor, a bronze on the high bar and a silver medal for the Japanese team.
Kohei Uchimura's More Recent Achievements
At the Japanese Championships, Uchimura won 4 gold medals in the All-Around, floor exercise, pommel horse and high bar. Uchimura will represent Japan at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.
