Hi, this is Django Ward for About.com. Today, we are going to talk about the names of the strings on a guitar. If you ever want to teach yourself to play guitar, there is plenty of books and information on the Internet about how to do it, and they all use the same names for the strings.Use Numbers to Identify the Names of Guitar Strings
The names of the guitar strings are named in two different ways. You have the note that it's tuned in, and they also have numbers. To make it easy, the smallest string is the smallest number. The smallest string is string number one. String number two, string number three, four, five, and six.Use the Notes to Learn the Names of Guitar Strings
Another way that we can call the strings is the note that they are tuned in. String number one is tuned in E. String number two is B. String number three is the note G. String number four is D. String number five is the A string. String number six is the lowest string, and the lowest note on your guitar another E. So the guitar is tuned: E, A, D, G, B, and E. That's it.
