Transcript:Turning Pictures into a Coloring Book with Photoshop

Hi, I'm for Don Schechter for About.com Computing. Today I am going to show you how to have some fun with your family by turning your photos into a coloring book using Adobe Photoshop.

Choose your Photoshop Coloring Book Images

First open up Photoshop. Click on the File Menu, select Open, and find your digital picture.

Duplicate & Convert Layers to Black & White

First duplicate the background layer. Go Layer> New> Layer via Copy. Now we have 2 layers, the Background Layer, and Layer 1 With Layer 1 selected, choose Image> Adjustments> Desaturate. This turns our photo into greyscale.

Now we have to duplicate Layer 1. Go to Layer> New> Layer via Copy. With Layer 2 selected, go to Image> Adjustments> Invert. In the Layers Palette change the Layers Blend Mode to Color Dodge. The picture is now almost completely white.

Now go to Filter> Blur> Gaussian Blur. When the dialog box appears start by moving the Radius Slider all the way to the left. Once you've done that you can start to slowly move it to the right. As you move the slider the sketch of your picture will start to appear. If your photo reappears, just nudge the slider to the left just a little.

You can print out a few different sketches and collate them into a coloring book for the kids. Thanks for watching. For more information, please visit us online at Computing.About.com.
