Transcript: Creating a cyber effect background in photoshop cs
Hi, I m Isaac Brody for About.com computing. Today I'll teach you how to create a stylized cyber effect background in Photoshop CS2.Let s start by creating a new document. I'll select preset 800 X 600 to make things easy. And click ok. Next goto Filter ---- Render ---- Difference Clouds. Next goto Filter ---- Pixelate ---- Mosaic. I'll use a cellsize of 20. You can use whatever you want. Click ok. Now add a radial blur by going to Filter ---- Blur ---- Radial Blur. I'll set the blur amount to about 28, the blue method to zoom, and the quality to best. Click ok.
Now go to Filter ---- Stylize ---- Emboss. I'll keep the angle on 135. Change the height to about 7, and the amount to 300 percent. And click Ok.
Now we'll go to Filter ---- Brush Strokes ---- Accented Edges. I'll use a width of 1, brightness 50, and smoothness 1. And click ok. Now go to Filter ---- Stylize ---- Find Edges. And then goto Image ---- Adjustments ---- Invert.
Now I'll add a hue/saturation adjustment layer. Click on the create a new adjustment layer icon on the layer pallete and select hue saturation. Check the colorize box, set the hue level to about 190, and the saturation to 70, and click ok. This looks pretty good, but let s take it one step further. Duplicate the background layer by dragging it to the create a new layer icon. Now go to Filter ----- Blur ---- Radial Blur. Let s set the blur amount to 40 and click Ok.
We're currently covering up the original background. We re going to create mask to reveal the cyber background. Make sure the radial blur layer is selected and click on the add vector mask button on the layer pallete.
Select the brush tool on the toolbar on the left. Select the vector mask on the layer pallete, and make sure the foreground color is black. If the default foreground colors are black and white hit the X key to switch them so the foreground color is black. Now change the brush size for the brush tool to about 150. And lower the opacity to about 25 percent.
Now make sure the layer mask is selected again, and now I'll paint areas on the blurred layer to let the bottom cyber background through. I'll try the rough shape of a cross. We ve got some detail coming in. Just play with it till you get something you re happy with. I like how that looks. And there we go, we ve created a funky cyber background. If you re confused go back to the beginning, rewind, pause, and play again.
