First, buy your tickets early. New Year's Eve parties sell out quickly. You'll find complete party lists online.
Second, book your hotel reservation well in advance. There are literally thousands and thousands of people who descend on Las Vegas for New Year's Eve.
Third, be prepared to pay, might I say, a bit more for lodging during this time. Ok, you'll pay a lot more but it's New Year's Eve in Vegas.

Fourth, be prepared for cold temperatures. Even though it's the desert, it does get cold in Las Vegas.
