Hello and welcome to Robson Street, British Columbia's most famous shopping street in downtown Vancouver. I'm Molly Wheeler for About.com and I'll be your guide today as we explore fun places to shop and eat in this historic district. The SkyTrain can drop you off at Burrard Street where it's an easy walk to Robson.
History of Robson Street
Named after John Robson, premier of British Columbia in the late 1800's, Robson Street was also called Robsonstrasse because of the many German immigrants who settled there. The Robsonstrasse Hotel pays homage to the German influence of this area.
International Brands on Robson Street
Well-known international brands such as Ferragamo, Armani, Club Monaco, Guess, BeBe, Zara, Laura Ashley, Banana Republic, Swatch, Nike, Levi's Body Shop, and Gap all sell their wares here. And yes, there's even a Starbucks.
Canadian brand stores are especially popular. Check out M.A.C., a cosmetic store that has every makeup product and accessory to make you beautiful. Younger shoppers flock to stores like Below the Belt for their trendy, casual West Coast clothes. Canadian Greetings sells a variety of luggage at rock bottom prices. CB2 can help you furnish and decorate your home.
Upscale Shopping on Robson Street
Those looking for upscale clothing will like stores like Ferragamo, Armani Exchange, Club Monaco and BCBG Maxazria, among others. If you're needing a special gift, or are just feeling decadent, visit the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for a variety of hand made sweets.
When you need a refreshing break to fuel up for more shopping, choose from a world of restaurants.
I hope you have enjoyed your brief tour of Robson Street. Visit it yourself and find your own treasures. I'm Molly Wheeler for About.com, wishing you a great Vancouver holiday.
