What to Expect at Mustang Island
Now, Mustang Island is a long thing stretch of land with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and Corpus Christi Bay on the other. It protects the mainland from hurricanes and nurtures the wildlife in the region. It's also a State Park and a beach lovers favorite.
Things to Do at Mustang Island
You can go camping, swimming, fishing, hiking, kayaking and sunbathing or just build sand castles on the beach.
Mustang State Park is in the southern portion of the island while the town of Port Aransas is in the northern end of the Island.
History of Mustang Island
Here's a little history. The island was first named "Wild Horse Island" because the Spaniards brought horses there in the 1800's. The name was later changed to "Mustang Island."
Getting to Mustang Island, Texas
To get to the Island, you can drive from Corpus Christi or take a free ferry in Port Aransas. If you enjoy fishing, there's a variety of great saltwater fish. Birdwatcher will find shorebirds and a large number of waterfowl and the best time for viewing is Spring and Fall. If you love camping there are numerous campsites with water, electricity, restrooms and showers.
If your not a camper there are several Lodging choices ranging from small cottages to resort condominiums. For dining, There is an abundance of fresh seafood, Mexican and American restaurants. And those were some tips on visiting Mustang Island Beach in Texas.
