Hi, I'm Shane Murphy, your technology Guru for About.com. Today we'll show how to visit Mars in Google Earth.Getting Started Visiting Mars in Google Earth
Visiting Mars is one of the functions inherent to Google Earth, you before you can start you'll need to head over to "google.com/earth" and follow the instructions for download and installation. With Google Earth open, simply click the planet symbol at the top and select Mars to be taken to a map of the Red Planet. Most of the same navigation tools found in Google Earth or Maps still apply here: you can click and drag to move in any direction, use your scroll wheel to zoom in and out, and utilize the search field on the left to find a specific valley or NASA landing site.Features Offered to Those Who Want to Visit Mars in Google Earth
Similar to the functions available on Google Earth, you can filter out different layers on Mars to specify what you're searching for. You can choose to look only for notable geographical features, NASA landing sites and satellite pictures, or even take a guided tour through the planet. You can also click on any of the icons shown to bring up a text bubble explaining different details about your point of interest. Click the blue links to be taken to Wikipedia and other outside information sources to learn more.
