Transcript:Quick Tip: What Is the Vardon Overlap Golf Grip?

I'm PGA Teaching Professional Todd Kolb with About.com. We're going to talk about the Overlap Grip.

What's the Vardon Overlap Golf Grip?

The Vardon Overlap Grip is one of the most popular grips in the game of golf, and the key to this grip is that the pinky of the bottom hand which—for me—is the right hand, is actually overlapping in between the index finger and the middle finger of my top hand, which is my left hand. The pinky just rests right in there in what we call the “Overlap Grip.”

Who Benefits From a Vardon Overlap Golf Grip?

Now, I like this grip, and I recommend it to my students who have bigger hands or longer fingers because it allows them to get their hands on the golf club in a comfortable position.

So the Overlap Grip, or what might be called the Vardon Grip, is one of the most common grips in golf, and I would recommend it for anyone who has longer fingers or bigger hands.
