Transcript:How to Take the Train From Hong Kong to Guangzhou

Hey I'm Bob, a travel blogger at Vagabond3. Today with About.com, I'm going to tell you how to take a train from Hong Kong to Guangzhou, using tips from the About.com travel site.

One of the great advantages of traveling through Asia is the ability to get from one city to another. Making this trip by train is easier and faster than other ground transportation options, and simplifies the border crossing.

Hong Kong Train to Guangzhou

In Hong Kong, all trains heading to Guangzhou departs from the Hung Hom station in Kowloon and arrive at the Guangzhou East station in Guangzhou. There are roughly a dozen trains that make the two hour journey throughout the day, and schedules can be found on the website or at the station. Tickets can also be purchased online for Hong Kong departures or at the station for both Hong Kong and Guangzhou trains.

With multiple trains daily, there is no need to buy tickets in advance, unless you have a tight schedule. It's important to note, ticket sales end twenty minutes prior to departure in Hong Kong, six hours prior to departure in Guangzhou, and boarding is closed about fifteen minutes prior to the scheduled departure. Once you have your tickets, it is best to arrive and check-in at least forty-five minutes before departure, which will allow you time to pass through customs and immigration.

Visa Requirements

Remember, before you plan for this trip, there is a formal border between Hong Kong and Guangzhou. For entry into Guangzhou, travelers must meet China's passport requirements, which many times include the need for a visa.

With all this in mind, there is no easier or faster way to make this journey.
