Transcript:Quick Tip: Profile of the Ribera de Duero
Hello I'm Milo for About.com, and today we're talking about the Ribera del Duero, or the Duero River wine region in Spain.
Touring the Ribera del Duero
The Duero River starts in the region of Soria in the high plateaus of Spain and heads across what has become one of Spain's richest wine producing regions before heading into Portugal. The wine from the region is rightly famous. The area was demarcated very recently in the early 80s however, wine has been produced here since Roman times.
The heritage of the region is famous and replete with examples right before your eyes, castles rise above vineyards and villages throughout. The river and it's environs is definitely worth a visit as it traverses this ancient plateau. Evidence that this was once a basin of a great sea is everywhere, from the chopped off hills that were once islands, to the sand and seashells far from the present day shores. A wine tour is definitely in order.
