Hi, I'm Debi Como, here for About.com. I'm the Guest Relations Coordinator at Domaine Carneros Winery, and I'd love to take you on a tour of our chateau. Domaine Carneros is located in the beautiful Carneros Appellation.

Facts About Domaine Carneros Winery

We are about 50 minutes from San Francisco and we are located just off Highway 121 in Napa. One of the most amazing things about Domaine Carneros are the beautiful views that we get to partake in every single day; we are surrounded by magnificent vineyards and rolling hills here in the Carneros region. The beautiful chateau behind us is fashioned after the Chateau de la Marqueterie, which is located in France. Domaine Carneros was founded in 1987 by the Taittinger Family.

Wines and Grapes at the Domaine Carneros Winery

We have 365 producing acres of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. The Carneros region is a premiere growing region for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, which are the components of our sparkling wine. As a natural progression, we began a still wine program in 1992, which consisted of our Pinot Noir. Eileen Crane, our founding winemaker and CEO, has been making sparkling wines for 35 years, 25 years of those with Domaine Carneros.

Our wines are produced in the traditional French method, which includes aging them for three full years. Upon arriving at Domaine Carneros you may be a little intimidated by the size and grandeur of our chateau, but don't let that stop you! You will be greeted by our concierge and you may choose to join us on one of our public tours or at a seated tasting at one of our beautiful tables on the terrace or in our salon. Domaine Carneros is well-known for its sparkling wines, so I'm going to pour for you one of our flights today.

Types of Wine at Domaine Carneros Winery

Let's begin with the classic Vintage Brut, which is a blend of our Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes, properly aged for three years. Our beautiful Vintage Rose is also a blend of our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. And to finish our tasting, we're going to be pouring the Le Reve, a beautiful Blanc de Blancs (100 percent Chardonnay), and Le Reve means "The Dream" in French. This is our estate Pinot Noir, which is 100 percent all organic and grown right here on the estate. Domaine Carneros is open year-round, and we offer daily tours and open table service tastings.
