Hi, I'm Ramon Johnson for About.com. Today we asked same sex couples what's the best thing about being married.

Emotional Benefits of Same Sex Marriage

For me the best thing was that day. When we were able to stand up in front of 25 of our closest friends and say to them - you know - our love matters - our life matters.

Oh gosh. The dogs, no.

Well, we've been together over 25 years, so, it's - a it's ya know each other, you're comfortable.

I think it's just having that one person there that loves for whatever reason.

I think it just gives you a sense of belonging to the world.

But also, you don't have to go through all of the legal hassle.

And we're making this commitment, and we want you to see us do it.

You're part of the whole society that you really are part of, but just having something saying that is really wonderful.

There's no ands ifs or buts and we love each other, warts and all.

I like seeing the ring on our fingers.

We don't have to go to the gym everyday. We don't have to not be the person that's staying home all of the time.

Long Term Benefits of Same Sex Marriage

The day after we got married I thought this must be what immigrants feel like when they get their citizenship.

Really, the long term. Getting through the hard parts is just there's so much more than just the hot part - and that makes the hot part hotter.

Uh power of attorneys. All of that stuff that the legal system insists on. Uh you know, being from Connecticut. Though it's supposed to be one of these puritanical states, uh the governor just signed the marriage law so it's like - ok.

And, it has only gotten hotter. I'll say that. That's true I'll say that,look at that picture we looked horrible. What the _____ was I doing with you.

We're married.

You know the best thing, I really enjoyed having our announcement in the paper frankly more than anything else, because it was just sort of like hello world.
