Transcript:How to Pick Cucumbers
Hi, I am Charlie Siegchrist for About.com Home and Garden, and we will be discussing how to pick cucumbers. When to Pick Cucumbers
Cucumber vines grow right along the ground. About 50 days after they have been planted first the male flowers come out to make sure pollen is available, and then a few days later the female flowers come out and the cross pollination takes place and they turn into fruits.Pinching Cucumber Vines
The vines are relatively delicate, so in picking the cucumber the important thing is to support the vine and you can do that by pinching right where this stem attaches to the vine and then pulling the cucumber so that you get a scar like that so that other cucumbers like this tiny guy back here will get started soon enough. Thanks for watching.
