Transcript:Tips for Buying a New Mattress
Hi, I'm Debbie Anderson for About.com! With so many different types of mattresses on the market today, buying a new mattress can be a lot of fun, but there are a few things to consider before making a purchase. So today I'm going to cover some of the key things to consider before purchasing a new mattress.Mattress Sizes
The first thing you must do is determine your price range and stick to it. Mattresses come in many sizes ranging from a Twin size to a King Size. When determining the size, measure the area of the room where you will place the bed to determine the most realistic bed size that is appropriate for your room. Always make sure you will have enough space to walk around the bed once it has been setup in the room.Mattress Comfort Levels
Next, determine your comfort level. Comfort levels range from a 1, or a hard mattress, to a 10 rating, which is a soft mattress. This can only be determined by lying down and trying out the different comfort levels.Mattress Materials
Next, determine the quality of material and the name brand you want for your mattress. Most mattresses come with an upholstery layer, or padding, and then an inner spring coil unit. Since there are literally 100s of options on the market, when it comes to determining the comfort level, quality of material, and named brand of the mattress that you want, keep in mind that the higher quality and more padding you purchase, the longer the life of the comfort level.Testing Mattresses Before Buying
Finally, go to different retailer show rooms so you can lay down on the varying types of mattress materials to finally make your decision. After all, if you are going to spend a third of your life on your mattress, trying them out is the only way to truly determine which mattress is right for you.Thank you for watching, to learn more please visit us on the Web at homegarden.about.com!
