Transcript:How to Install a Heated Mattress Pad
Hi! I'm Debbie Anderson for About.com. Having a little extra heat to take the chill out of the bed on those cold nights can make all the difference, especially when trying to lower your heating bills. So today, I'm going to show you how to safely put a heated mattress pad on your bed in just a few easy steps.
For this task, you will need a heated mattress pad kit.
Prepare the Bed for the Heated Mattress Pad
First, remove all of the bed linens from the bed until the bed has been stripped down to the mattress.
Put the Heated Mattress Pad On
Next, remove the heated mattress pad cover from the kit. Then, lay the heated mattress pad flat over the mattress so that the electrical outlet plug on the heated mattress pad is facing closest to the mattress' edge that is facing closest to a nearby electrical outlet on the wall.
Carefully place the corners of the heated mattress pad over the corners of the mattress and then gently smooth out the heated mattress pad over the entirety of the bed.
Plug in the Heated Mattress Pad
Next, plug the connection for the heated mattress pad controller into the electrical socket located on the edge of the heated mattress pad so that the two ends of the connection are tightly squeezed together.
Then, plug the power cord for the heated mattress pad controller into a nearby electrical wall outlet. Turn on the controller for the heated mattress pad to double check that the heated mattress pad is working properly.
Make the Bed
Next, put the bed linens back on the bed so that the linens are lying flat over the heated mattress pad and so that the power cords to the heated mattress pad are free to flow out from under the fitted bed linens without being pinched or bunched up.
Ensure that the Power Is On
Double check that the power cord cables for the heated mattress pad cover are lying loosely along the bed frame so that the power cords are not pinched when running along the area between the electrical outlet on the wall and the mattress on the bed.
Tips for Using a Heated Mattress Pad
As an added tip, when using your heated mattress pad, avoid leaving food or drinks on the bed to prevent spills and accidents from damaging to the electrical components in the heated mattress pad.
Finally, always make sure that the heated mattress pad is turned off when it is not in use.
And with a little extra heat on the bed during those cool nights, you're sure to have a better way to keep those heating bills down to take the chill off when you're sleeping.
