Hi! I'm Debbie Anderson for About.com!Overtime, small or light rust stains can build up on a variety of materials around the home due to prolonged water exposure on metal surfaces, so today I'm going to show you how to naturally remove those rust stains using just a few simple items you most likely already have at home.
Rust Removal Supplies
For this task you will need – a measuring spoon, table salt, lemon juice, a small bowl, an old toothbrush, a clean sponge, and a clean towel.Mix Salt-Lemon Paste
First, use your measuring spoon to place a mixture of three parts table salt to one part lemon juice in the bottom of the small bowl.Use your old toothbrush to mix the two ingredients together in the small bowl until a smooth, yet fairly thick white paste forms in the base of the small bowl.
Apply Paste to Rust
Gently apply the salt and lemon juice paste to the entire area where the rust stain is located while double checking that the entire rust stain is evenly coated with the paste.Allow the salt and lemon juice paste to sit and work on the rust stain for approximately 20 minutes.
Wipe Away Paste
Next, use a damp clean sponge to wipe away the salt and lemon juice paste. Once the rust stain has been removed by the salt and lemon juice paste, use a clean towel to remove any leftover moisture on the previously stained surface until the area is completely dried off.Use on Different Surfaces
This home remedy combination of salt and lemon juice is generally safe for not only removing small or light rust stains on metal surfaces, but it can also be used on most fabrics and other surfaces around the home too! With this winning combination home remedy, rust stains around the home should be an unsightly mess of the past!
