Transcript:Quick Tip: What Is a Closed System?
Hi, I am Dan Thornton, owner of Reef Encounters in Erie, Colorado. I am here today for About.com.
Closed System Aquariums are Unsafe
A closed system means there is nothing coming in or out, except for your water changes. You may see when you are shopping for mini aquariums, aquariums that are advertised as no maintenance aquariums. You have a fish, and some plants, and according to them you don't ever have to feed the fish, or that you very rarely do.
All Aquariums Require Maintenance
That the plant will use up the nutrients from the food, and make food for the fish. The tank provides for itself, and that will never work, you always have to feed your fish and clean the water.
These systems don't work, you don't want to buy them. Thanks so much for watching. For more information on fish, please visit About.com.
