Transcript:How to Make a French Omelet
Hi! I'm Jesse Rosado for About.com, and today, we're going to be learning about how to make a French omelet.French Omelet Ingredients
So the basic ingredients in making a French omelet are:- Eggs
- Butter or olive oil
- Salt and pepper
Prepare Eggs for French Omelet
We've got our butter here. Put it in a warm, nonstick pan. We're cooking this over medium heat - I don't want it to get too hot. Okay, so I'm just going to crack my eggs. I'm just going to season them with a little bit of salt. I'm going to mix them up. What I'm looking for is a nice, consistent liquid egg all the way around so you can have a nice, blond beautiful omelet. I've got my medium heat going - I'm going to turn it up just a little bit to get the pan nice and hot, because this pan will have to recover from this cold egg dropping into it. There we go. And once I do that, I'm going to swirl it around and make sure I'm not sticking anywhere. Go ahead and pull this to the middle so we don't get a lot of color in this omelet. And start working this back towards the center.Cook French Omelet and Add Toppings
Move the eggs around. Essentially, what I'm doing is making sure that not any one part of this egg is spending too much time against the pan because I don't want a lot of color on that. And then at this point here, we're about sixty to eighty percent done, I grab my gruyere cheese - this is something that happens fast, folks, this is breakfast! At this point, if you have toppings, this is where you throw them in, too. You want to make sure those toppings are good and hot. The eggs are just about done. I'll go ahead and throw some chives inside there. If you ever wondered how those omelets get rolled up, this is how it's done. Nice little fold right there. Form one side up like that. Bring it to the lip, and then you roll it out of the pan, just like that. That's a nice rolled-up omelet right there. Thanks for watching. To learn more, visit us on the web at About.com.
