Hi, I'm Natasha Levitan for About.com Food. Today I'm going to show you how to make an easy pain au chocolat, or chocolate croissants

Chocolate Croissants Ingredients

For this recipe, you will need:
  • 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 3.5-oz. bar dark chocolate
  • 1 3.5-oz. bar milk chocolate
  • 1 egg beaten
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees.

Prepare the Egg and Chocolate

Crack an egg over the side of the small bowl, whisk it with a fork and set it aside. Break the chocolate bar into six pieces.

Form the Chocolate Croissants

Flour your working surface and unfold the puff pastry onto a lightly floured surface onto it. Cut it into 9 equal pieces. Lay 1 chocolate piece in the center of a pastry piece and wrap it in the pasty like you would an envelope, completely enclosing the chocolate. Repeat with remaining pastry.

Bake the Chocolate Croissants

Place the rolls on a baking sheet, oiled or covered with seam side down. Brush the tops of the rolls with the egg wash. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the pastries are golden brown. Eat them warm.
