Transcript:Belgian WafflesHi, I’m Chef Roblé for About.com. Today I’m going to show you how to make Belgian Waffles. Here we go.
Ingredients for Belgian WafflesHere are our ingredients:
- 2 cups cake flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 cups whole milk
- 4 eggs (separated into whites and yolks)
- non-stick cooking spray
Mix Ingredients for Belgian Waffle BatterCombine your flour, salt and baking powder into a bowl and set aside. In another bowl we are going to whip the egg yolks and sugar until the sugar is completely dissolved and the yolks turn a pale yellow color. They should look like this. Add in the vanilla extract and the melted butter. Whisk until combined. Just like that. Now we are going to whisk in the milk and we are going to combine in all of the dry ingredients. Whisk this together. You want to be careful not to over mix. A few lumps is okay.
Mix Egg Whites and CombineSo right in this mixer we are going to whip the egg whites until they get to soft peaks. We are going to whip them on high-speed. Next we want to very gently fold in the egg whites into the batter. This is going to make the batter very airy and fluffy. Be careful not to over mix it or you will break too many of the bubbles which is what gives the batter its fluffiness.
Spray the Waffle Iron, and Add BatterSo, our waffle iron is hot. We are going to open it up and spray in some of this nonstick cooking spray. A little bit on the top and bottom. Next we are going to ladle in our batter. Different waffle machines take different amounts of batter. I can’t tell you how much are your machine. It just takes practice and getting used to your waffle iron. That’s about enough for this one. A little over three minutes later and it looks like we are done.
