Transcript:Tips for Drafting a Fantasy Football Team

Hi I’m Andy Miley for About.com. Today we are going to discuss some fantasy football draft strategies. This is the most important day, so let’s keep this tips in mind when you are drafting your championship fantasy team.

1. Don't Have a Set Way to Draft

RB/RB in the first two rounds, WR/WR at the turn, when you are drafting late, or the variation called “upside down drafting” where you get your WRs/TE/QB before you even look at a RB. Please allow yourself to read how the draft is going and make adjustments on the fly.

2. Don't Fall in Love with a Football Player

How many times in drafts do players you highly value drop a few spots? If your selection is four picks way, have four picks that you would take. Some of the worst picks are made when you are attempting to recover from a “snaked” pick.

3. Know Your Fellow Fantasy Football Owners

How did they draft last year? What web sites do they read? Who do they follow on twitter? Who is their favorite team(s)? Do they have a blog, podcast, or post on fantasy football message boards?

4. Use the Power of Position in Fantasy Football

In snake drafts, continue to watch the rosters of the teams that are close to you and anticipate where they are drafting. You can pass on a player that you know the teams behind you won’t pick as they have enough at that position for now. Don’t follow someone else’s advice, follow your own.

5. Don’t Follow Someone Else’s Advice.

follow your own advice. The website that you subscribe to doesn’t put in the time away from your family and friends, the people who you follow on twitter don’t front you the cash for your league, Follow your gut, even if it disagrees with the masses and remember you know more than you think.

And the last tip, have fun. That’s what fantasy football is all about. Of course it’s about beating your friends or showing you’re the smartest, but make sure you enjoy the process. To learn more check us out on the web at About.com. Thanks for watching.
