Transcript:5 Great Perennials for a Summer Flower Garden
Hello, I'm Tom Johnson with Magnolia Plantation and Gardens and about.com. Today I'm going to talk to you about five wonderful perennials for your garden in the summertime.
Best Perennials for a Summer Flower Garden
One of them is buddleia or butterfly bush. These come in white purple and different colors. Butterflies just love them. And it seems the hotter they get the more they bloom. Another great plant is Lantana. Lantana has the wonderful blooms in shades of reds, pinks and golden yellows. The one thing about this plant is the hotter it gets the more it blooms and the deer themselves don't like it. So it seem to flourish even in the country garden.

Another great plant for the summer is hybrid tea olive osmanthus. This is an evergreen shrub that will come out in bloom with a wonderful smelling sweet bloom through the late part of the summer. When we are all getting tired of the summer heat these plants seem to bloom and fill the air with fragrance. Hydrangeas are another plant for the summer garden. These bloom in blues and pinks and reds and several shades of lavenders. They bloom from June to July.
Even though they are deciduous in the winter time, throughout the summer time they have a beautiful green cover and wonderful mop head flowers. Another great perennial is the day lily. The day lilies are called that because the blooms only last one day each but on each plant there are several several blooms that come out so you get a long bloom period. They make a wonderful low growing perennial that does well in the summer heat.
