Hi, I'm Tina with About.com, and I'm here to share some tips with you for doing Feng Shui in an apartment or smaller space.
What is Feng Shui?
Proper Feng Shui is purposely arranging the things around you to promote the chi in your home and gain positive results. There are nine categories, or life situations, in Feng Shui. Each category is represented by an area in your home. This is called the Bagua, and it is categorized by these nine zones:
Feng Shui Tips for Small Apartments
Apartments or smaller spaces can be tricky, but start by lining up your career zone with the front door or entrance to you apartment. Consider using colors, textures, and shapes instead of physical objects in the Bagua zones. Packing too much life in a small space can easily become over crowded, chaotic, and disorganized. Be sure to clear clutter daily, as clutter is a sure way to block chi.
Enlarge your space with mirrors, which circulate chi around the room. Just be sure not to put mirrors across from doors and windows, as this can circulate the chi right out of your home.
Plants are generally good to bring life and scents into the home. It also keeps the chi flowing.
Proper lighting is essential in improving apartment Feng Shui, as light is one of the elements in producing chi. Choose soft and relaxing lighting instead of harsh fluorescents. And open windows to let in natural light often.
Water is an element that will bring in wealth and prosperity, so consider a fish tank, aquarium, or fountain to bring in an element of water into your home.
These are just a few tips on bringing Feng Shui into your apartment. For more information on Feng Shui and chi, please visit About.com. Thanks so much for watching.
