Hi, I'm Heidi Dehncke-Fisher, here for About.com. Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes at a fashion show?

Planning Fashion Shows

Fashion shows take months of planning. And the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week event is no exception.

Thousands of hours go into makeup and hairstyling - the perfect outfit.

You know what it’s always time. And I think it's hard to be creative on a deadline and I think every designer will tell you some thing similar. You know trying to make it happen with in the time that’s allotted and to get it done, you know, to the extent of your dreams of what it should be.

Prepping Fashion Models

We have 3 hours to get – we have 30 models today. So we have 3 hours to get them ready. Seamless timing, touch ups, quick changes and calm nerves are center stage back stage.

You do it as quick as you can. Me it takes 10 minutes. With other people it may take longer, but I try and get as many done as I can, then I’ll keep touching them up until hey go on and making sure everything is perfect. There’s no mascaras going anywhere that you don’t want it too. So, it’s a whole process and then by the end of it everyone’s exhausted and, like, oh my god. It is exciting.

Thousands of People

It takes over 2,500 hair stylists and makeup artists to coif and paint thousands of models. More than 90 designers create, sew, and primp over 3000 outfits. There’s no time for mistakes when an entire industry is watching.

It’s a long process you know. And it takes money, and it takes people and it takes publicists. It takes agents. It takes too many people, but, you know, it comes together in the end.

Till next season.
