Transcript:Is Karate Safe for Kids?
Hi, my name is Igor Dyachenko and I’m the world champion and chief instructor at D-Dojo, the school of modern Japanese karate in New York City for about.com. Today I am going to explain why karate is safe for kids.Karate and Child Safety
Sometimes when a parent is enrolling a child in our school they express a concern that karate might be a dangerous or sort of injuries may follow the exercises. So, we always tell them that it is not true and it is a perfectly planned exercise, step by step. And they go in a safe environment and improve their skills according to the plan.Stereotypes of Karate
The parents are expressing their concerns about the safety because they watch a lot of movies. In the movies, violence and karate is involved in a scene, so they think this the direction. But they should rethink their position and learn a little bit more about the karate program, especially what we teach here in D-Dojo. It is very safe and it’s a Japanese method in which we go stage by stage. As you can see, karate is safe for kids and it is concentrated on form and discipline and not physical contact.
