Transcript:How to Make an Origami Box
Hi, I'm Tony Tiu, for About.com.
Supplies Needed for an Origami Box
Today, we will make an origami box. You will need one piece of origami paper.
Create an "X" to Make an Origami Box
Begin with the colored side on top. First, fold the paper in half vertically, from right to left. Then open it up again. Next, fold the paper in half horizontally, from the bottom to the top. When you are done, open it back up again.
Now, fold the paper in half diagonally, from the bottom right corner to the top left corner. Then, open it back up. Repeat this step for the opposite side, from the bottom left corner to the top right corner. After this fold, you will have formed a "plus" sign, as well as an "x" on the paper.
Fold the Bottom to Make an Origami Box
Now, flip the paper over. Using the creases that we just created, fold the bottom right corner diagonally into the center of the paper. Repeat this same process for the other three corners as well. Remember, the folds should be diagonal.
Once you are done folding all four corners into the center, you will be about halfway done with the process of creating an origami box. Now, rotate the paper 45 degrees. Then fold the bottom edge up to the middle of the square, following the crease we've already made. Do this also for the top edge.
Fold the Rectangle to Make an Origami Box
Now you should have a rectangle. Fold the rectangle in half horizontally to find the center. Using the center crease as a guide, fold the right hand side into the middle of the rectangle. When you are done, open it back up.
Repeat this step for the left hand side. This may be a bit more difficult, as the paper is a lot thicker now. Still, fold down, and then open up.
Open the Origami Box Up to Finish
Now, open the bottom and the top of the rectangle. Then open the top and bottom flaps of the square.Using the previous creases, fold the left side into the middle. Then fold the right side, also into the middle. At this point, your origami should look like a skinny tie.
Open both of these sides up halfway, so that they are perpendicular to the table. Take the top two corners of the raised sides, and bring them together. Then, fold the top flap down. Take the bottom two corners of the raised sides, and bring them together. Then, fold the bottom flap down.
You now have an origami box. That's it! Thanks for watching. To learn more, visit us on the web at About.com.
