Transcript:How to Make an Origami Shrimp

Hi, I am Gretchen Siegchrist for About.com Parenting, and I am going to show you how to make an origami shrimp.

For this project you will need one sheet of origami paper and a pair of sharp scissors.

Fold the Origami Paper Into a Triangle

Begin by folding the paper in half into a triangle to form a crease down the center. Open it up and fold the edges so that they are almost into the center but not quite there.

Now we will fold the outer edges in so that they meet up with these edges here. Fold the top edges in toward the center.

Cut a Small Triangle

Now, we will take this top point and fold it down to right about here where the corners come together. Now we will fold it back up again so that the point is peeking out over the top edge.

Take your scissors and cut a small triangle right here. Now we will open the paper up like so.

Make Folds in the Shrimp's Tail

Using the scissors, we will cut thin slits up the sides of the paper almost to this line here. Do the same thing on the other side. Now we will refold the paper as it was before.

Then, take these strips and poke them through this hole we cut earlier. Now take this long tail at the bottom and fold it up, making a crease here, almost at the edge of this fold here.

Now we will fold it back, leaving just a little bit of overlap right here. Repeat this until you have made four or five similar folds in the tail.

Finish Making the Origami Shrimp

Now, take the paper and fold it in half on itself. Now, pull out these folds just slightly and curve them down to give it some curve in its tail. And there you go. Now you have an origami shrimp.
