Transcript:How to Make an Origami Goldfish

Hi, I am Gretchen Siegchrist for About.com Parenting, and I am going to show you how to make an origami goldfish.

For this project you will need one sheet of origami paper and some sharp scissors.

Form a Square to Start the Origami Goldfish

Begin by folding the paper in half into a triangle. Then, we will fold it in half again to make a crease. Fold the corners down into the center so that we have a square.

Form a Triangle for the Origami Goldfish

Take the tips of paper and fold them back up to the top of the square. Take each of these flaps and fold them out at an angle like so.

Now, take this bottom flap and fold it up so that the point is about halfway up. Take this little extra part here that is below the fold and we will fold that up as well.

Flip the paper over and fold up this back flap so that you have a triangle.

Form a Crease in the Paper for the Origami Goldfish

Now, we will open up the triangle and fold it back down so we have a square shape again.

On this side of the origami, take this point and fold it back about halfway to the center of the square. We are just going to do this to get a nice crease.

Cut the Side to Make an Origami Goldfish

Using the scissors, place the blade in between the two layers of paper here. We will cut up the side just to where the crease starts. Flip the origami over and do the same thing on the other side.

Form the Origami Goldfish

Now, gently take this piece, and we will fold it out, inverting the fold here, and stopping right at the crease. Smooth out the crease, and voila! It is a goldfish.
