Transcript:How to Select Real Leaves for Crafts

Hi, this is Angela with About.com, and today I am going to show you how to collect leaves for crafts. Fall is one of the most beautiful seasons of the year. It is the time where leaves begin fall and change colors. Collecting different size, shape, and colored leaves is a very fun activity for children and adults. Here are a few tips for selecting the best leaves.

Look for Bright Colors When Selecting Leaves for Crafts

When collecting, look for the brightest leaves. It is best to have a variety of colors, shapes, and sizes. Look for leaves that are around the same size and shape as the leaves on the tree. This ensures that the leaf is still healthy, and won't crumble.

Use a Leaf Book to Select Real Leaves for Crafts

You can purchase a leaf book to know which leaves you have, and figure out which ones you would like to find. If you do not have a lot of variety from the trees at your home, try looking at local parks. Avoid leaves that are moldy, wet, and rotten.

Avoid Damaged Leaves When Selecting Real Leaves for Crafts

Also avoid leaves that have been damaged by insect bites, disease, or the environment. Leaves that are brown and wilted crumble very fast, and can make a big mess. Make sure you collect the whole leaf, and not just bits and parts. Have fun collecting!
