Transcript:How to Make an Origami Cat
Hi I'm Larry Wood and I'm here with About.com and I am an origami instructor. Today we are going to be folding an origami cat.
What You'll Need
- Two Squares of Paper and Optional Folding Tools
- For this, we need a six inch square of paper and a four inch square of paper and the folding tools that I use, or not.
Origami Cat Body
We're going to begin with the body of the cat using the six inch square.
The colored side goes down and we're going to fold it in half diagonally, we are going to set our crease.
The next step is to open and bring this edge to the center line and then we bring the other edge to the center line and set that fold and now we have a kite shape.
The next step is to take the kite shape and fold it in half. We end up with this shape.
The next step is to take this shape and bring rhe tail around so we have a ninety degree angle.
The next step is to take this tail and fold it over like this.
The next step is to open this up,. put our thumb between the flaps and it will pivot around like this. Set our crease and we will have what looks looks like a small kite.
The next step is to look at this point and this point and we are going to fold the tail up so it goes through each of those points. Fold it in half and we now have the tail for our cat.
Origami Cat Head
We want to put the colored side down and fold it in half, corner point to corner point.
Set the crease, open it up and take the other point and fold corner point to corner point.
Set the crease and with both of these folds we end up with a triangle shape.
The next step is to open this up. We take one point or the other and fold it to the center.
The next step is to turn the paper over and from the point we folded, we go to the bottom, and we fold this point about half way to the center line and fold it in half.
The next step is to turn this over, take this edge and fold it to the center line. Then take this edge and also fold it to the center line. Take this edge and fold it up and this begins to become the outline of the cat. This is one ear and this is the other ear. It looks like this on the reverse side.
The next step is to fold this down and then it becomes the nose of our cat.
Now for a couple of finishing touches, we take a pen and add a mouth and two eyes and have the face of our cat.
There's a little pocket on the back, if you slide the pocket on like this, we now have our cat.
