Transcript:How to Make a Pom-Pom Apple Craft

Hi, I'm Zoya Popova for Today I'm going to show you how to make a pom-pom apple.

To Make a Pom-Pom Apple Craft, You'll Need:

  • a craft knife and a cutting mat
  • a piece of sturdy cardboard
  • a ball of red yarn
  • sharp small scissors
  • a piece of brown or black cord or jute
  • some craft glue or some hot glue
  • a piece of green fabric or construction paper.

Make the Craft Stencil

The first step is to make the stencil for your pom-pom. This is simply a rectangular piece of cardboard. The height of the cardboard determines how large your pom-pom will be, so measure accordingly.Place the cardboard on a cutting board and cut out a rectangular opening inside it using a craft knife.

Wrap and Tie the Yarn Around the Stencil

Take your ball of yarn and start wrapping the yarn around the stencil. Remember that the more loops you do, the fluffier your pom-pom will be. After you have over a hundred loops, cut the yarn. Also, cut a longer piece of yarn, about 12 inches long. Pull the longer piece of yarn through the stencil and around the yarn looped around it. Tie in the middle and make sure the knot is extra tight.

Cut out The Stencil and Reveal the Apple Pom-Pom

Next, take that pair of small sharp scissors and carefully cut along the edges of the loops. The idea is to remove the pom-pom from the stencil while keeping the yarn tied together in the middle.

Fluff out the pom-pom and shape it. Trim all around the pom-pom to create a round apple shape. For the apple stem, take a piece of brown or black cord and pull it under the knot of the longer piece of yarn. Once you've secured the cord, trim that piece to match the length of the rest of the yarn.

As an additional touch, you can take a piece of green fabric and construction paper and cut out a leaf shape. Secure that shape around the bottom of the stem using hot glue or craft glue. And there you go--a wonderful pom-pom for a special teacher in your life. Thank you for watching, and for more information please visit
