Transcript:How to Make a Leaf Keepsake Scrapbook With Kids

Hi, this is Angela with About.com, and today we're going to show you how to make a leaf scrapbook.

What Is a Leaf Keepsake Scrapbook?

A leaf scrapbook is a form of picture scrap book where you put a leaf in the place of a photograph.  A leaf scrapbook can have an equal if not greater pleasure because you get to take a little piece of the memory with you.

Supplies Needed to Make a Leaf Keepsake Scrapbook

To make a leaf scrapbook, you will need:

  • Leaves
  • Acid-free construction paper or card stock
  • Acid-free glue Ribbon
  • Clear plastic paper protectors
  • Hole punch
  • Colored pencils and markers

Tips for Collecting Leaves for a Leaf Keepsake Scrapbook

Once you have all of your supplies, you can go out and collect your favorite-looking Autumn leaves. The whole family can participate in the gathering. Try to avoid brittle, cracking leaves for longevity. Flatten your leaves between the pages of a dictionary, encyclopedia, or a giant book your choice, placing them separately in each page. Put another heavy object on top of your book. Leave them there for several hours.

Arrange the Leaves for a Leaf Keepsake Scrapbook

When nice and flat, take the leaves and arrange them on a piece of construction paper in whatever design you please. Have the more colorful side facing up to make a more attractive scrapbook. Make sure your covering sheets are the same size as your construction paper so you don't have to modify them.

Use Sheet Protectors for a Leaf Keepsake Scrapbook

When you have them all in place, carefully cover them with your sheet protectors. Create how ever many pages you want your scrapbook to have repeating the previous steps. When all of your papers are done, straighten them up and punch holes in them with your hole puncher.

Cover and Bind Your Leaf Keepsake Scrapbook

After that, you will want to make a front and back cover. Lightly draw your design making a title for your book and decorating it. Tie the pages together with your ribbon and your leave scrapbook is finished.
