Hi, I am Chris Davis for About.com. Let’s walk through how to make a Jack o Lantern party invitation.

Materials For a Jack-o-Lantern Party Invitation:

  • 8 1/2 x 11 inch orange card stock or construction paper
  • Black and green construction paper
  • Envelopes
  • Pencil
  • Pen or marker
  • Glue stick
  • Ruler
  • Pair of scissors

Cut the Invitation Template

Fold the orange piece of paper in half. Fold this sheet in half one more time. Unfold the last step and cut the paper in half you should have created two blank note cards. Using one of the cards you have created draw the shape of a pumpkin starting from the creased edge. Make sure you have your sketch on the creased side go off the edge. This is needed so that the card will open. All pumpkins are shaped differently so don’t worry if it isn’t perfect. Now cut out the pumpkin including along the crease. This will serve as you template for creating multiple invitations.

Cut and Paste the Jack-o-Lantern Features on the Party Invitation

With your black construction paper cut out a small triangle. This will serve as the pumpkins eyes. Place it on your pumpkin template. If you don’t like the size, trim it. Once you have your eyes the way you like them. Trace multiple copies and cut them out. Remember to create two for every invitation. Next draw a slightly smaller triangle that will become the nose. Still using your black paper sketch the shape of a mouth. Trace and cut out as many as you need. Finally with your green paper trace a small rectangle that will be used as the stem. Once again trace an cut out as many as will be needed for your invitations. Using your pumpkin template place it on your folded cards and trace. Cut out the pumpkin. Repeat this step to create the number of desired cards you need.

Now glue your eyes, nose, mouth and stem onto each card. Let the glue dry. On the inside of the card, include information your guests need to know about your party such as date, time and address. Use your creativity and have fun making your cards. Now just place your cards in an envelope and mail.
