Transcript:How to Make a Handprint Mask

For Halloween or dress up handprint masks are a lot of fun to make and a great activity for the entire family. The following project comes from About.com’s family crafts site.

To Make a Handprint Mask, You'll Need:

  • Poster paper or craft foam
  • Pen or Pencil
  • Large Sheet of Colorful Paper
  • Craft Glue
  • Cellophane Tape
  • Miscellaneous Craft Supplies to Decorate
  • Scissors

Trace Your Handprint and Cut Holes

You will want to begin by tracing both hands onto a piece of heavy paper or craft foam. This step will be much easier if someone else traces your hands. Once you have both hands traced, cut them out. Next cut a hole in the center of each palm. These holes will serve as the eye holes on the finished mask. You may want to hold them up to your eyes to get an idea where you want the holes to be. Now overlap each print so the the holes line up to your eyes. With a pencil make a small mark on the bottom hand print. This mark will help you guage where you need to glue the two prints together. Now glue the handprints together.

Decorate the Handprint Mask

The main part of your mask is complete. At this point it’s time to decorate. There are no right or wrong ways to customize your mask. Use markers, feathers, googlie eyes, glitter whatever you would like. Be creative and have fun. Once you have your mask decorated, set it aside to dry. Tape a small dowel to the back of the mask and you are done.
