Transcript:How to Make Mouse Ears Using a Headband

Hi, I’m Jennifer Turoff with The Crafty Stamper in Lagrangeville, New York for Today, I’m going to show you how to make mouse ears using a headband.

To a Make Mouse Ears Headband, You Will Need:

  • One Headband
  • Foam Sheet
  • One Yard of Black Fel
  • tHot Glue and a Glue Gun
  • Measuring Tape
  • Polka Dot Ribbon
  • Sharp Scissors
  • Fabric Chalk

Measure Felt to Cover the Headband

Start by measuring the headband length and width so you will know how much felt you need to wrap the headband. Multiply the width times three and add an extra inch to the length for safety. Use chalk to trace the measurements onto the felt, or you could use a grid to measure it out and cut the strips. Using hot glue, you need to make sure that you keep up with the glue and not get it on there and let it dry before you get your material to it. So, a good rule of thumb is to do probably about four inches and then glue it to your felt. I’m leaving about a half inch at the bottom, in order to fold it over at the end.

Use a Round Template to Cut out Mouse Ears

Now we are going to move onto the ears, I have a die cut machine to cut circles. And if you don’t have a die cut machine, you can use the circle that your ribbon comes on or a small cup or other circle to trace it out and cut it with scissors. Now, we’re going to assemble the ears. Place the felt circles about two inches apart and cut a piece of felt that will wrap around the width of your headband and give enough room to glue the circles to it in order to attach it. Glue the felt strip to the two circles and repeat this process so you have two ears.

Now, I’m going to cut the foam piece out of a three inch circle. So, if you are doing this with your glass or your ribbon, you want to make sure that the felt circle is larger than the foam circle. Now, I’m going to hot glue the foam circle onto the center of the felt circle. So, now we have two ears. The next step is to glue the foam pieces together.

Attache Ears to the Headband

Once your ears are assembled, slide them onto the headband and find the proper placement on either side. Use the hot glue to secure them in place. To make this headband for a little girl, we are going to add a bow. First, you need twelve inches of polka dot ribbon, a twelve inch strip and also a three inch strip. Take the three inch strip, we’re going to fold it in thirds and wrap it around the center of the bow and glue it in the back. And not it’s time to glue the bow on to the headband. If you follow these simple steps, you can make mouse ears quick and easy.
