Transcript:How to Make Finger PaintHi, this is Aubrey with About.com and today I am going to be teaching you how to make finger paint.
Supplies Needed to Make Finger PaintTo make finger paint, you will need:
- 2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 2-1/2 cups cold water
- 2 cups boiling water
- food coloring
Make the Finger PaintMix two cups of flour with two teaspoons of salt. Add the 2-1/2 cups of cold water and stir until mix is smooth.
Boil 2 cups of water. Then gradually add your mixture to the boiling water. Boil until the mixture becomes smooth and thick. To reduce mess, pour the paint into small bowls.
Add the food coloring until you get the desired color. You can mix the primary colors to make additional colors. Repeat this process for every color you want. Let the paint cool down.
Tips for Using Finger Paint With ToddlersWhen coloring with a toddler lay a trash bag or newspaper underneath your work space to reduce mess. Toddlers will want to move to a different activity if they get bored. To keep them involved have them try and draw new shapes or let them get a little messy with their work.
Keep introducing new pictures they can draw and pat them on the back to let them know how well they are doing. For storing paint, pour into small containers with lids and keep in a cool room temperature place.
