Transcript:How to Make a Clay Pot Reindeer

Hi, I am Angela de Jong-Angelici for About.com. The holidays just scream time to make some fun crafts with your kids. Clay pot reindeer are easy and fun.

Clay Pot Reindeer Supplies

To make clay pot reindeers, you will need:
  • a 3-inch clay pot
  • a roll of garland to make antlers, in either silver or gold
  • ribbon
  • bells
  • small googly eyes
  • small red pom poms
  • brown spray paint
  • a glue gun
  • scissors

Paint the Clay Pots

Prepare your clay pots ahead of time. Spray paint them thoroughly with brown paint. Give them plenty of time to dry. It's better to paint them ahead of time to save time, plus the spray painting should be left up to an adult.

Put the Bell on the Ribbon

Now you have your painted clay pot, and your kids are ready to create a reindeer. Take a 12-inch piece of your ribbon, then string on your bell. The bell should be in the middle.

Tie a knot at the bell, and then tie another knot in the middle of the ribbon. String it through the clay pot, and tie another knot at the top of the ribbon.

Glue the Eyes, Nose, and Antlers

Now it is time for some adult help again. Take the glue gun and put some glue in the top of the pot to help the middle knot on the ribbon stay put. Use the glue gun to attach your two eyes, red nose and two antlers.

Decorate the Clay Pot Reindeer

Kids can now take markers and decorate the rest of the clay pot. Make a mouth and put the year on it. Or decorate it with glitter pens and give it a name. Your kids will be so proud of their new reindeer it may even inspire a song.
