Hi, I'm Bonnie Zaiss for About.com. Here's an easy box template to use to make your own custom gift box.
Find a Template to Fold a Box from Template
You can find the template on About.com at this address: http://familycrafts.about.com/cs/coloringpages/l/blboxtemplate.htm. Or create your own template by drawing 6 squares -- each side of the box is 2-1/2" by 2-1/2" and the flaps are 1/2" wide.
Print this pattern out on your home printer on white or colored heavy paper or go to your local print shop for help. We printed the template on 2-sided patterned cardstock.
Cut Along the Lines to Fold a Box from Template
Now, cut around the solid lines only and follow the pattern precisely including the angled sides of the flaps. The inner dotted lines are fold lines.
Assemble the Box From Template
Next fold sides and flaps inward along all the dotted lines. The flaps will go on the inside of the box and are used to connect the sides of the box. Create some nice creases. Reserve one of the squares to be the lid of the box.
Start at one end of the template and add glue along the flap and press firmly against the adjacent square to create a side of the box. Remember the flaps go on the inside. Work your way down the template creating the 4 sides and the bottom, until you get to the lid. Glue the last 2 remaining flaps to the inside walls of the box. And you're done. Add a bow for fun.
