Transcript:How to Create Apple Stamps

Hi, I am Chris Davis for About.com. Let’s walk through how to turn an Apple into a unique art stamp.

To Make Apple Stamps, You Will Need:

  • Apples
  • Knife
  • Paint
  • Paint brush
  • A few plastic or paper plates
  • Construction paper
  • News paper
  • Apron or smock
  • Paper towels

Select Apples to Use as Stamps

First select your apples. Any type of apple will work, however, look for apples that are still firm and not bruised. They will give you the best finished result. Once you have selected your apples cut them in half carefully and set aside to dry for an hour or so. While the apples are drying start preparing your printing location. Involve your little ones by having them help spread out the newspaper. Next have them put on their apron or smock. Be aware that no matter how well you cover the table or your child paint will end up where you don't want it. So keep watch as the project progresses and wipe up as you go.

Spread Paint Over the Sliced Apple

Squirt a small amount of paint onto the plates and spread it around with a paint brush. I recommend that you work with just a few colors at a time. Too many options at once can get very messy quickly. Next, dab your apples in the paint cut side down. Try to spread an even amount over the entire surface with a paint brush. If you get to much paint on your apple wipe of the excess with a paper towel. Gently press the apple down on the construction paper then lift the apple gently. Repeat this process as many times as you desire. Mix different colored paints to create unique effects. Try creating a design in the apple by cutting a shape into the center of the cut side of the apple before applying paint this will also create a unique print.

Once you get the hang of it try printing on lunch or party bags, walls or windows. Have fun. To learn more visit us on the web at About.com. Thanks for watching
