Hi! My name is Mary, I am with All Star Entertainment in Houston, Texas, and today we are going to talk a little bit about face painting.

Use Proper Tools for Face Painting

First of all, you need to have the right tools. The main thing you need to be concerned about is that the paint that you use be a cosmetic grade paint. It can be a wet paint, like the ones you see here in this half of the tray, or it can be a dry paint that's applied dry like eye shadow or a blush to your skin, but it must be makeup, it must be cosmetic.

Keep the Face Painting Kit Clean

Always use clean water, and to make it even a little cleaner, I put this product in here called Brush Bath. It cleans your water while you paint and it also cleans your brushes. So a little bit of Brush Bath in the water, and stirred around real good. Then every time you rinse the color off of your brush, your brush is clean.

Use Non Toxic Face Painting Supplies

Always use a polyester glitter; never, ever use a craft glitter that has any metal in it. If you can't find the label on the container that says polyester or poly, don't buy it. I always keep a spray bottle filled with clean water so that I can wet my paint, like that. And I continue to wet my paint as I go when I am painting on the child's face.

Try to Avoid Paint by the Eyes

Occasionally you will find that a child has trouble with you painting close to their eyes or near their mouth. The paint is safe, it's not going to hurt their eye or their mouth, it is a cosmetic grade paint. I still would try to keep away from the eyes, as close as I paint up to a certain point and not get in the eye if I could. But if the child's eye starts tearing up and the paint starts to run, you may have to start your design over or at least a portion of your design over.

Clean Face Paint Design with Proper Wipes

You can use a Wet Ones or any brand like this that's designed for skin, or you can use a makeup remover toilette, any brand will do, or a baby wipe, like a Huggies or whatever brand, any kind of brand will work because all of these products are designed for use on skin.

Now, when you are painting their mouth and you do want to paint their lips on lot of designs, because their mouth is part of the design, if they do this, it's okay. I mean, it wouldn't be any different than if you did that with your lipstick. Eventually it will come off, but it will not hurt the child as long as you are using the right kind of paint.
