A Craft Room That Reflects Your Passion

We all have our day jobs whether it's inside or outside of the home, but it's our passions that define us. House and Garden knows we all need a passion.

One such passion is collecting vintage ribbon and wrapping paper. Tying them up just right creating a gift that tells the story of patience and thoughtful selections. Of course you can always go the grocery store and get a pre-fab bag and tissue paper, but why not create your signature.

A Craft Room for Gift Wrapping

When my ribbon spools exceeded 50, I knew it was time to find a special place just for them so I took my regular old laundry room and tried to turn it into a craft room. I removed some cabinets so that I could use some dowels I could put wrapping paper on and of course the ribbon and created a craft room.

Special Things in Your Craft Room

Make your search for exquisite ribbons your quest. I always keep a lot of ordinary ribbons on hand just as a staple, in lots of different colors.

Of course you can find the best shear ribbons from Midori, out of Seattle, Washington.
If you are looking for 100% silk, you might want to check out Hannah Silk. These are all tie-died and come in the most exquisite colors

And if it's vintage ribbons, which are of course my secret obsession you'll want to look at renaissance ribbons they offer pages of selections, anything you might like. But, it's not inexpensive. Take this from Barney's. A roll of velvet ribbon, maybe only 3 yards on it. $36. But remember, you don't have to wrap the entire gift in this expensive ribbon. You can just use it as icing on the cake! Just around the top. And sometimes, it's worth it.

So gift wrapping goes beyond the expected stuff like gift bags and pre written cards. It's the art of hand delivering a gift you've embellished just for someone special. So go ahead and find your signature style, whatever it is just do it, and do it well.
