Transcript:How to Build Lean Muscle
Hi, I’m Terri Walsh, owner of Art Studio New York City, and today I’m here for About.com to show you how to build lean muscle mass.
A common misconception is that lean muscle will make you bulky and that is simply not true. Lean muscle equals toned muscle. When you say that you want to be toned, you really mean that you want lean muscle because lean muscle gives your body the shape that you are looking for.
Increase the Weight for Your Exercises
One of the best ways to build lean muscle mass has to do with your choice of dumb bell. So, instead of picking up something lighter and doing 20 reps, you’ll want to pick up something heavier and do 10 -15 reps. This is going to help you build lean muscle mass which is going to help your body burn fat faster. For specific exercises to build lean muscle mass, go to About.com.
Build Lean Muscle with Protein
The next thing that is important in terms of building lean muscle mass is eating enough protein after your workout. Protein helps repair and strengthen your muscles, so getting enough protein is vital to building lean muscle mass.
Incorporate Cardio to Build Lean Muscle
The other way to build lean muscle mass is to incorporate cardio into your basic exercises. You can do that very simply by adding a dumb bell to your unweighted squats or your unweighted lunges. You can simply take a dumb bell and turn this into a cardio exercises by increasing your speed. So you’ll do this exercise until you get your heart rate up. This way you get your resistance training, you are building lean muscle, and you get your heart rate into the cardio zone so you burn more fat faster.Thank you for watching, for more information, go to About.com.
