Transcript: Assembling an Event Guest List

Hi! I'm Lindsay Pellegrino with Just Perfect Event Planning for About.com, here to speak with you about putting together your guest list.

Build a Guest Base

The biggest things you can have as an event planner or promoter is your own database. The way that continues to grow is just by going out, meeting people and making new business connections, and just keeping all that contact information, so that when an event comes up, you have all that ready on hand to send out to your list.

Celebrities at Events

Celebrity wrangling is one of your hardest things to do at an event. You can speak with their publicist, a good close friend, but it's really hard to guarantee that they would even arrive at your event on time, if at all. A lot of times they request a payment for their appearances - again, that does not guarantee they will arrive, or attend your event.

Sponsors Who Attract Guests

A lot of times the best way to get a celebrity on board is to sponsor a charity they're interested in or something that they really like to do, and really focus on those celebrities that want to go to that type of event. If you're going to have big names there, you're really going to get more sponsors, and more money towards your event than if you just have the next regular Joe attend your event.

Use Technology to Grow Your List

The beauty of this day and age is that technology has really made an impact on the event planning industry. There are so many different ways of communicating, e-mail networks that you can sign up to and really address all of your business contacts, all of your personal contacts.

Selling Guest Lists

A lot of people pay big money for promoters' lists and databases that have great people on them. And, the better the people, the higher the cost, or the bigger penny you can make from that database.
