Hi, I'm Deena Keeler with About.com, and I'm going to talk to you today about reasons to stop using plastic bottles.
Plan Ahead to Avoid Using Plastic Bottles
The easiest way to avoid needing to buy plastic bottles, in particular water that's contained in plastic bottles, is to plan ahead. If you're going to work, make sure you have a reusable mug. Most offices have a water fountain or source of tap where you can constantly refill that cup. If you're going on a trip, make sure you have something that you can carry any type of liquid, whether it be water or juice, so that you don't have to stop and purchase plastic bottles. I think planning ahead is probably the best thing you can do and ensure that you always have a reusable container that you can refill at water fountains or at the water tap.
Consider Your Activity
You have to think about your activity, so if you're going to work you need to be thinking about what you're going to be consuming at work. If you're going to school, you're going to obviously need something that's portable. If you were going for a run, obviously you're going to need something that's not going to be heavy, you need something that's going to be fairly easy to carry. So again, you have to consider what the activity is going to be because there are a lot options out there for using a reusable bottle.
Alternatives to Plastic Bottles
There are containers out there now that can be used for hot and for cold beverages. Some people like to have a container that can hold hot and cold beverages that has a lid so that it can keep the beverage hot if they're drinking hot tea or coffee but also something that will keep cold beverages cold. There are just a lot of different options. Nalgene bottles tend to be very popular. There's no health risk with that type of plastic, it's very durable and in the long run you end up saving a lot of money if you end up purchasing a container like that.
