Transcript:How to Hang Streamers
Hi, I'm Jacob Taxis for About.com. In this video, you will learn how to hang streamers.
To begin, you'll need:
- Party streamers
- Clear tape
Once you've decided on a color scheme and the desired effect of the decorating, start hanging your streamers. While there are no concrete rules for hanging streamers, there are a few tried and true techniques that have satisfied many a streamer enthusiast.
Hang Streamers From Windows and Doorways
First, try hanging streamers from window frames, door ways, and banisters. In warmer months, streamers hanging from the frame of an open window can be a fun, welcoming sight.
You can also hang streamers from the top of a door frame so that they create a fun, flowing room divider. Or, try twirling streamers up and down your staircase banister. Experiment with different color patterns to create your desired effect.
Another great option is the classic twist. To begin, take two different colored streamers and cut them to the same length. Lay the streamers on one another, taping them at both ends so that you have one long streamer. Then, tape one end of the streamer to the ceiling.
Take the other end and twist it a few times until the streamer is spiralled. Finally, tape the other end of the streamer to another area of the ceiling to make an inverted arch. Experiment with various lengths, colors, and patterns across the ceiling.
You might also want to try stretching streamers along the length of cabinets and doors. To prevent broken valuables, avoid connecting streamers to fragile items around the house.
Using the Fold-Over Method
For a little more pizazz, try the fold-over method for hanging streamers. Begin by picking out four differently colored streamers, each the same length. Pair the streamers together two by two. Lay one end of one pair of streamers over the other pair to form a right angle and tape them together.
Begin by folding the bottom pair of streamers over the top pair. Then, fold the top pair over the bottom pair. Continue until you've exhausted the length of the streamers. When complete, release the folds to reveal a beautifully geometric streamer design, perfect for hanging from the ceiling.
